The information content of BIM, by Mario Guttman

Mario is doing some very relevant research into the application of information theory to BIM. This is a must read if you’re interested in real world applications of BIM

Sharing 3d files like google docs

This is a free app made by TeamPlatform. When working with .STP .IGS files it can be really nice to share with people… Wish we had this on LSMSHF

Organizing Clash information by location

This is something we’ve been thinking about for some time and have done a ton of testing about.. The basic problem is that organizing conflicts by location is not something that Navisworks takes advantage of yet… Since the information is already there, the solution isn’t far.

Some ideal workflows would be to organize conflicts by:

  • grid quadrant
  • level
  • proximity to a third object(s)
  • proximity to other clashes

Another test to visualize building conflicts. In this case using Google’s Fusion Tables and a direct export from our issue tracker to compare clash labels against the disciplines they affect.

Design Data Problem Visualized in PLM

Off the stage and now Patrick Schumacher doing his thing (Taken with instagram)

It’s 4:00 am somewhere… Actually, it is 4:00 am right here in New York.

  • Proportion of Disciplines - measure proportion of disciplines by number of elements, bounding size of elements, types of elements - how does this relate to what was done 3 years ago? how about 10 years ago?
  • Visualize project development - as you move through a project, how are decisions affecting the design? how is the design being improved and developed? what information is added and when? what is the quality of that information? does that information positively affect your design intent?
  • Design standards check
  • What activities typically happen when? What activities or what areas of the building are done in a given project and at what time? is this good or bad?
  • LOD reference - what is in the model? - Some nice images around this one could be made…

  • i.e. Check fire rated partitions on a per floor level on typical floors. Why do they not match? Which element is it exactly?
  • Lifecycle of a BIM element - when was it born? How has it evolved?
  • Visualize areas and rooms - program management
